Key Compounds of BoneGenesisVitamin K2 as MK-7 Vitamin K2 has thirteen forms or isomers known as menaquinones. Research has shown that one of these in particular, menaquinone-7 (MK-7), helps shuttle calcium out of the blood and also arteries and into bone. Numerous population (epidemiological) studies have shown that when K2 levels are high, osteoporosis and hardening of the arteries is lower as compared to folks with lower levels of K2. How does MK-7 help to build bone and inhibit or reverse calcification in arteries? Scientists do not know all the mechanisms involved, but they have found out that vitamin K2 plays a role in the production of two proteins — osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein (MGP) — that are crucial players in the creation of dense bone and maintenance of its structural integrity. MGP has also been shown to inhibit calcification of arteries. MK-7's crucial role in the genesis and maintenance of bone led to its incorporation in Bone-Genesis as a prime ingredient. Vitamin D3 Vitamin D3 a fat soluble vitamin which means its absorption depends upon the presence of bile & fats in the intestines. It is widely thought to be the best form of vitamin D because it has more biological activity. One of the major functions of vitamin D is to help facilitate calcium and magnesium absorption in the intestines. It also is a major player in the utilization of calcium and phosphorus, and the assimilation of vitamin A. These vitamin D linked activities all contribute to the maintenance of bone mineral density and serum (blood) calcium levels. This made vitamin D3 a "natural" for inclusion in Bone-Genesis. Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid Alpha ketoglutaric acid is a naturally-occurring chemical that is produced as part of the energy generating citric acid cycle inside cells. It also participates in the genesis of carnitine, which is essential to the metabolism of fats and in the production of a biologically active coenzyme form of vitamin B3. In animal models, alpha ketoglutaric acid increased the mineralization and density of bone. Many researchers feel that alpha ketoglutaric acid will have similar effects in people, which led to its being a part of Bone-Genesis. Horsetail Extract Horsetail is a natural source of silica, an organic form of silicon that is needed for calcium absorption, and the development and repair of connective tissue such as bones, cartilage, and the membranes around joints. These properties led to the incorporation of Horsetail in the Bone-Genesis. | ||||||
